The gigantic online retailer, Amazon, has created their own holiday for shoppers called Prime Day. This is the third year that Prime Day has been held and the sales results are extraordinary. Year over year sales for the 30 hour window grew by more than 60%, surpassing their sales for both Black-Friday and Cyber Monday. Sales came from 30 countries and tens of millions of shoppers took advantage of deals – deals that Walmart and EBay tried to compete with similar deals on the same day. It is interesting to note the success of these self-created holidays by retailers and whether other retailers will create their own holidays making the retail calendar very busy. Convenience store days – coming on August 30th – maybe the start to a national convenience store shopping day in Canada.
