What We Learned From Sandy

The convenience store in the worst of times (hurricanes, tornadoes, natural disasters) is the last stop and perhaps the best stop for immediate product needs.  In the wake of disasters in Japan, United States and other countries, there are pictures of convenience stores selling out of products to neighbours when the other larger grocery stores have long closed operations pending the outcome of the disaster that is coming.  As hurricane (tropical storm) Sandy approached the maritime provinces, Quebec and Ontario, people began buying high margin items.  Water, batteries, and other food staples became hot selling items.
