The City of Toronto had a chance to re-think their decision to ban plastic bags effective January 1, 2013. They chose not to. They were not interested in consultation with industry stakeholders. It appears that they were not interested in legal challenges. They were not interested in possible exemptions or appropriate time frames to allow retailers time to adjust their business processes. Heck, they must have been thinking charge the customers an extra nickle for the new paper bags that come from trees that they are chopping down. Where are the tree huggers when you need them?
