Changing Children’s Text Books

Recently, lobbyists argued that one page of the legendary story “Twas the Night Before Christmas” needed to be changed as the story line influenced children to smoke. More specifically, the verse that references Santa with a pipe in his mouth and smoke circling his head has been removed. Lobbyists indicated that parents have been tearing the smoking related part of the 200 year old poem from their books or had to console children who thought Santa’s smoking habit (the pipe in his mouth) was going to die as a result of his smoking habit. The lobbyists argued that this poem had to be changed by a easy edit to take out the verse that was so offensive to modern children. What are your views on this story?
